Spin Art
You spin me right round, baby, right round like a record, baby. Right round, round, round…
In a small studio in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Russell has spent many an evening, over the last year, throwing paint onto huge spinning canvases.
Inspired by the father of spin art, Eugene R. Pera (the first known artist to produce, display and promote spin-art), and more recently Damien Hirst (whose spin-art sells for millions), self-taught Russell decided it was time to let his inner Jackson Pollock run amok!
After weeks of trial and error Russell perfected a technique that enables him to spin large (up to 2m2), deep-framed canvases at high speed. Then using household gloss, he spends around 6 hours on each painting, building up the layers over the course of a few days.
Each unique painting is signed. Some have been spun as part of a series, whilst others are meant for individual display. Russell’s collection of work is for the sale. Please email for details.
